Take a peek in our Classrooms..
First you will notice the quiet, graceful and peaceful nature of these Montessori children in their learning environment. This is a small school where grace and courtesy is taught. Being kind, gracious, and well mannered is expected of each child. Respect for the care of our Earth, all human nature, our classroom environment and each other is the core of our program.
Winter Bear Montessori School

Kingston, New York 12401
Winter Bear Montessori School was founded in 1981 by Ronnie Colgan (Hazzard) to create a school that reflects the cultural, ethnic and economic diversity of our community; a school that actively involves families in their children's early educational development. Ronnie holds a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education, and her Montessori credential from the Center for Montessori Teacher Education. (CMTE)
We are a warm, welcoming community of like-minded families in which children and adults find friendships and support. Our goal is for each child to grow into an autonomous, caring, kind being who deeply respects all life and loves learning. To this end, we emphasize respect, independence, and responsibility and; the ability to understand others feelings and emotions as well as our own. Grace and courtesy is taught and expected in our school. Our children are respectful, kind and inquisitive. They show their gentle manners each day. Hands on learning with concrete materials offer a solid educational foundation.
The school, in it's 29th year, is directed by Ronnie Colgan and assistants. Ronnie was also the founder of the YMCA Nursery School in
Kingston, and was founder of the Rhinebeck Montessori School in Dutchess County, NY.
